Understanding Schizophrenia: Symptoms, Treatment, and Support

By Brain And Life Hospital

Schizophrenia is a chronic mental health condition. The patients of schizophrenia often show symptoms such as:

Hallucination: Hearing or seeing things that do not exist in reality. People around the patient cannot see/hear those things. Like seeing demons, being possessed by Pori/Jinn, Nishir Dak. These are some recognized symptoms of schizophrenia.

Delusions: Unusual beliefs that do not have any logical ground. Such as, their life is in danger, their family is trying to harm them.

Muddled Thoughts & Speech: Because of the Hallucination and/or Delusions, the patient may find it difficult to think or speak in an organized manner.

Apathy: Feeling lost, disconnected from emotions, distant from relatives and friends, not wanting to go out or maintain social relationships, losing interest in self-care or even day to day activity.

Note: Schizophrenia and Multiple Personality Disorder are different conditions. Patients of Schizophrenia do not have split personality. Also Schizophrenia does not usually cause someone to be violent.

If you or any of your loved ones are experiencing symptoms of Schizophrenia, consult a specialist as soon as possible. The earlier the issue is addressed, the better it will be. There is a lot of stigma around mental health issues and its treatment in our country. More than 1 out of 300 people in this world suffers from Schizophrenia. The treatment of this condition is fully safe and the symptoms can be mitigated with guidance from a professional.

There is no single foolproof test to determine Schizophrenia. It is usually diagnosed after being assessed by an expert of the field.
